The Washington Commanders overcame a disastrous start to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles 27-10 in a crucial Week 8 matchup. After gifting the Eagles 10 points with inexcusable first-quarter mistakes, Washington bounced back by scoring 27 unanswered points to stay alive in the NFC East race.

Rushing Offense

The rushing attack generated 135 yards and a touchdown across 26 carries. Rachaad White broke loose for an explosive 33-yard run during garbage time, but without that play, his average dipped to 2.0 yards per carry, while Austin Ekeler emerged as the night’s most effective runner. Guard Sam Cosmi stated that he appreciated the strong commitment to the running game, although the unit still needs to improve overall efficiency. The rushing offense received a B-minus grade.

Passing Offense

Quarterback Jayden Daniels struggled early, completing 4 of 11 passes for 26 yards in the first quarter before turning things around to complete 12 of 18 attempts for 191 yards and a touchdown over the final three quarters. Treylon Burks led the receiving corps with 81 yards on three catches, Antonio Williams caught five passes for 54 yards, and Stefon Diggs hauled in a major touchdown reception. Additionally, Sam Cosmi delivered a stellar performance against Jalen Carter and the Philadelphia defensive front. The passing offense earned a grade of F for the first quarter and a B for the last three quarters.

Rushing Defense

The Commanders defensive line played exceptionally well despite missing Daron Payne and Javon Kinlaw, holding Eagles running backs to an average of 2.7 yards per carry. Saquon Barkley struggled throughout the night, averaging just 2.3 yards per carry despite an early touchdown. Sonny Styles and Frankie Luvu both played prominent roles, with the defensive line ultimately earning the game ball. The rushing defense was awarded an A grade.

Passing Defense

The pass rush dominated by winning one-on-one matchups and getting home on blitzes to record five sacks and eight quarterback hits, led by standout performances from Charles Omenihu and Shy Tuttle. In the secondary, Nick Cross led the team in tackles, while Trey Amos contributed a crucial pass breakup on a deep shot. The passing defense performance anchored a strong overall defensive effort.

Special Teams

Luke McCaffrey set the tone early with a 44-yard kickoff return and a 27-yard punt return before Philadelphia began avoiding him. Kicker Drew Stevens bounced back from a missed attempt to convert four field goals from 56, 39, 25, and 42 yards. Despite an ill-timed penalty by Tyler Owens, the unit provided a consistent spark and received an A-minus grade.

Coaching

Head coach Dan Quinn, along with coordinators David Blough and Daronte Jones, turned things around following a difficult 1-4-1 start and a rough first quarter. Jones successfully dialed up pressure, Quinn maintained stability, and Daniels praised Blough for getting play calls in earlier to help read the defense at the line of scrimmage. Although persistent penalties remain a concern, the coaching staff steered the team to a much-needed victory, resulting in a B grade.
