The Philadelphia Eagles suffered a 27-10 defeat against the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football, dropping their record to 2-6 and extending their losing streak to six games. After taking an early 10-0 lead late in the first quarter, the Eagles allowed 27 unanswered points and failed to stay competitive against a Washington side that had only one win entering November.

Offensive Line Struggles and Quarterback Woes

Philadelphia’s offensive line has regressed significantly under assistant coach Chris Kuper, particularly with rookie right tackle Markel Bell and guard Landon Dickerson both struggling significantly. Bell had a difficult night against K’Lavon Chaisson, while Dickerson and Jordan Mailata also saw their performance levels drop compared to previous seasons under Jeff Stoutland. Meanwhile, quarterback Tanner McKee failed to cement his case as a starter after completing 23-of-34 passes for 212 yards with zero touchdowns, one interception, and a lost fumble.

Historical Defensive Struggles and Second-Half Collapses

The Eagles defense allowed 135 rushing yards to the Commanders, marking the first time since 1968 that the franchise has conceded 100 or more rushing yards in each of the first eight games of a season. Philadelphia continues to struggle heavily in the second half of games this season, being outscored 113 to 37 across the league. Running back Saquon Barkley played through hamstring and back injuries to record 14 touches for 54 yards from scrimmage, prompting calls to rest him through the upcoming bye week to prevent a major injury.

Culture Concerns and Coaching Decisions

Rookie wide receiver Makai Lemon continued his strong recent form by leading the offense with six catches for 57 yards, totaling 13 receptions over the past two weeks. However, questions regarding team culture arose again after the defense appeared to quit on a two-point conversion attempt late in the game. Head coach Nick Sirianni was bailed out of a questionable fourth-quarter decision when a false start penalty forced the team to attempt a field goal instead of going for it on fourth-and-short.
