England striker Ivan Toney is scheduled to stand trial in June 2028 in connection with an alleged assault against a man at a central London nightclub.
Court Appearance and Plea
The 30-year-old athlete from Northampton entered a not-guilty plea regarding the attack on Saber Da Silva, which allegedly occurred at a venue on Wardour Street in Soho on December 6, 2025. Toney formally presented this plea at Southwark Crown Court, where officials scheduled a provisional trial at the same venue for June 12, 2028.
Judge Christopher Hehir addressed the defendant regarding the timeline, stating, “As you may know, the crown courts are operating under a great deal of pressure. We have got a massive backlog of work for various reasons.” He also informed the defendant that he was “sorry” about the delay.
Charges and Investigation
The allegations state that Toney headbutted and punched Da Silva during a dispute at the 100 Wardour Street establishment. Metropolitan Police conducted an investigation into the incident, leading to the formal charge announcement in July.
Following Thursday’s court proceeding, Toney, who featured for England during the summer World Cup, received unconditional bail. The provisional trial date in June 2028 coincides with the group stages of the men’s European Championship, a tournament jointly hosted by England, Scotland, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland.
