Jack Grealish Dropped by Everton Over Disciplinary Breach

Everton manager David Moyes confirmed that the club decided to drop Jack Grealish from the squad for their Carabao Cup match against Newcastle United due to a breach of club discipline. Although Everton did not release specific details, the decision is understood to stem from an unauthorized absence from training.

Moyes Addresses the Decision

Speaking after Everton secured a 3-1 victory at Hill Dickinson Stadium to set up a quarter-final tie against Fleetwood Town, Moyes declined to offer further specifics regarding the incident. He stated it was a club decision and something he preferred not to discuss extensively, while making it clear that he supported the action taken against the 31-year-old England winger.

When asked if Grealish would return for Everton’s upcoming Premier League fixture away at Newcastle on Monday, Moyes declined to reveal any team news. The disciplinary issue follows Grealish missing a 2-0 defeat at Arsenal due to illness and subsequently missing training on Monday without permission, though he has since returned to training at Finch Farm and is expected to face a fine.

Grealish’s Career Context and Future at Everton

Grealish is currently in the final year of his contract at Manchester City, where he was allowed to join Everton on a season-long loan after falling out of favor under former manager Pep Guardiola. During his initial loan spell last season, Grealish scored twice and provided six assists in 20 appearances, earning the Premier League player-of-the-month award for August before a season-ending foot injury in January halted his progress.

Following his recovery, Grealish featured for City in the Community Shield and the opening weekend of the Premier League before rejoining Everton before the transfer window closed. He has since made five league appearances for the Toffees this season, alongside outings in the EFL Cup.

Moyes praised his available squad for maintaining focus and not allowing the disciplinary distraction to affect their performance in the cup tie. He emphasized that Everton possesses strong internal values that players must uphold both on and off the pitch, noting that the team is doing its best to stay competitive despite a thin squad following a difficult summer transfer window.
