Tom Nolan earned a TKO victory against Renato Moicano at UFC Fight Night 292 on Saturday at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas, extending his winning streak to six fights in the lightweight division.
The Controversial Turning Point
After being controlled on the mat for most of the first two rounds, the 26-year-old Australian fighter benefited when referee Dan Miragliotta stood the fighters up while Moicano had a body lock in on his back. Shortly after the restart, Nolan landed a heavy strike on Moicano and shifted the momentum.
Moicano barely survived the second round before Nolan inflicted more damage in the third frame, prompting the TKO stoppage. Nolan should not face criticism for the outcome, as he defended well prior to the stand-up and capitalized when urgency was required.
Targeting the Next Opponent
Following his victory, Nolan expressed interest in facing Mateusz Gamrot next. The Polish contender is known for accepting any challenge, making him a logical choice for Nolan’s progression in the 155-pound division.
Given how Moicano succeeded on the ground, Gamrot would likely view those grappling sequences favorably if the bout is booked. With his latest win, Nolan cements his status as a rising talent in the lightweight weight class.
