Jacobe Smith intends to maintain his undefeated record until he claims the UFC welterweight championship and continues his streak beyond that milestone.
Victory Over Randy Brown
Smith improved his professional record to 14-0 and 5-0 under the UFC banner on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 292, dominating Randy Brown to secure a unanimous decision victory at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas. Brown holds a record of 20-9 MMA and 14-9 UFC.
This bout marked the first time Smith went the distance in the UFC, coming against his most experienced opponent to date. The matchup served as a valuable learning experience, leaving him satisfied after accepting the fight on less than three weeks of notice.
Speaking to MMA Junkie in a post-fight interview, Smith stated, “I wanted to keep my finish streak going. But you deal with sh*t in fighting that holds a toll on you when you’e in there. I felt like I dealt with it well. No excuses, but I think I handled business up to par.”
Three-Fight Roadmap to the Championship
Bolstered by growing momentum and recognition, Smith believes the moment has arrived to pursue a championship opportunity. He has set his sights on a quick turnaround at UFC Fight Night 296 on January 16 in his hometown of Dallas, specifying the exact opponents he hopes to face.
Smith outlined his schedule, expressing confidence that successfully defeating his targeted opponents will lead directly to a title shot. He intends to work his way through the division by targeting specific fighters.
According to Smith, “If it was up to me, I’d drag Kevin Holland’s ass down to Dallas and then beat his ass. Then after that get somebody like Sean Brady. And then after that, who knows? Maybe Belal (Muhammad) – somebody like that in there, just to have an ex-champ on my resume. Then after that, see who’s got the belt at the time.”
Smith added, “They’ve got to worry about me everywhere. This ain’t no patty cake. This is ‘Real Deal’ Holyfield sh*t, so we’re going to be in there fighting.”
