Franco Baresi mural outside Casa Milan vandalised again

The mural dedicated to legendary defender Franco Baresi outside Casa Milan has fallen victim to vandalism for a second time, barely two weeks after workers restored the artwork.

Vandalism and Previous Damage

As reported by MilanNews24, perpetrators used black paint to obscure the captain’s armband and the club crest located on the shorts of the former player. Tgcom24 added that vandals also blackened the European Cup trophy depicted in the artwork that Baresi is holding up.

Street artist Luca Rosada, also known as Lucas Street Art, designed the mural in Piazza Gino Valle to honor the former Milan captain following his passing at the end of July at age 66. The artwork initially suffered damage on September 27 when someone used red spray paint to cover the face of Baresi. At that time, Milan city councillor Alessandro Giungi condemned the act as a vile and wretched gesture while the club launched efforts to find the culprits.

Following the first incident, Rosada repainted the piece by creating an expanded version featuring a smiling depiction of the legend, which officials unveiled on October 10. This new attack has triggered renewed anger among the fanbase of the club.

A Legendary Career

The iconic defender dedicated his entire 20-year professional career to the Rossoneri, securing six Scudetti titles and three European Cups along the way. Following his retirement from playing in 1997, the club retired his famous No 6 shirt in his honor. On the international stage, Baresi also triumphed with the Italy national team by winning the 1982 World Cup.
