Eagles Fall to Commanders 27-10 for Sixth Straight Loss

The Philadelphia Eagles suffered their sixth consecutive defeat, losing 27-10 to the Washington Commanders at Northwest Stadium. Sitting at a 2-6 record, the Eagles now share sole possession of last place in the NFC East.

A Complete Collapse Across All Phases

The last time the Eagles endured a six-game losing streak was in 2012 during Andy Reid’s final season. Against Washington, the team struggled across special teams, defense, and offense. The Eagles failed to score in the second half, finishing the game with 155 total yards of offense.

Quarterback Tanner McKee completed 23 of 34 passes for 212 yards with one interception and was sacked five times for 35 yards. Washington rushed for 135 yards, making the Eagles the only team in the NFL since 1968 to allow 100 or more rushing yards in each of their first eight games of a season. Defensively, coordinator Vic Fangio has been forced to shift his secondary closer to the line of scrimmage to stop the run, leaving deeper areas vulnerable to big plays.

Highlights and Lowlights of the Matchup

The game featured rare bright spots for Philadelphia alongside significant struggles. Running back Saquon Barkley provided an early spark by catching a 24-yard pass and scoring on a 3-yard run to give the Eagles a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, though he finished with just 30 rushing yards on 13 carries while playing through back pain. Safety Andrew Mukuba forced a fumble on Washington’s third drive, recovered by Zack Baun, which set up Philadelphia’s first-quarter score. Kicker Jake Elliott added a 40-yard field goal.

However, the performance quickly unraveled. Penalties on Markel Bell and Jordan Mailata pushed the Eagles back from a fourth-and-four and wiped out points after a successful field goal attempt. Rookie offensive lineman Bell faced constant pressure from K’Lavon Chaisson, contributing to Washington’s four sacks. Defensive lapses allowed big gains, and the offense repeatedly stalled, extending a streak where the Eagles have gone three-and-out on their opening drive of the second half in seven of their eight games this season.

Following the loss, Saquon Barkley acknowledged the team’s struggles, stating that they are no longer the dominant team they once were. The Eagles will look to regroup as they prepare for the remainder of their schedule.
