Another week brought another defeat for the Chargers as they continued their search for their first win of the season, cementing their spot at the bottom of the league. As the only remaining winless team in the NFL with an 0-7 record, sports analysts across various outlets placed the squad dead last in their latest power rankings.

NFL.com and ESPN Evaluations

NFL.com placed the team at No. 30, highlighting that the Rams managed to defeat the Chargers by 15 points despite gaining just 24 yards over their first 15 plays across five possessions. The report noted that the team repeats familiar mistakes and has gone 27 drives without scoring a touchdown.

ESPN ranked the team at No. 32 and featured a historical look back by Aaron Schatz, who highlighted wide receiver Wes Chandler in 1981 as the franchise’s best in-season trade acquisition. Chandler was brought in after John Jefferson was traded to Green Bay, going on to average 917 yards and six touchdowns per season through 1987.

The Athletic and Pro Football Talk Insights

The Athletic also slotted the Chargers at No. 32, with Chad Graff and Josh Kendall pointing out that the team dropped to 0-7 for the first time since 2000, when head coach Jim Harbaugh was the team’s quarterback. The analysts noted that Harbaugh has seemed disconnected from the struggling squad all year, while the offense sits last in the league in offensive EPA at minus-95.56.

Pro Football Talk joined the bottom ranking at No. 32, where Mike Florio suggested that Jim Harbaugh’s stubborn refusal to change coordinators could eventually cost him his job.

Bleacher Report and Yahoo Sports Assessments

Bleacher Report placed the team at No. 32 as well, with Moe Moton describing the group as hard to watch for two months as the lowest-scoring team in the league. Coming off a Week 7 bye, the offense failed to score a touchdown against the Rams and turned the ball over twice, leaving the unit sinking into futility under offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.

Yahoo Sports also ranked the Chargers at No. 32, suggesting the lost season makes trading veterans an obvious move, with edge rusher mentioned as a primary candidate. As reported by Eric Williams of Fox Sports, regarding trade speculation and outside noise, Mack said, “You’ve got to be where your feet are man, ultimately. That can be the most difficult thing when you’re dealing with a lot of outside noise and stuff. Just trying to be where your feet are at all time. That’s kind of been my thing in years past.”

Sporting News and USA Today Roundups

Sporting News positioned the team at No. 32, as Vinnie Iyer noted that quarterback Justin Herbert showed little change following the bye week after throwing two more interceptions that sealed the team’s fate against the Rams.

USA Today rounded out the consensus at No. 32, with Nate Davis pointing out that the Chargers were the only team this season to lose a game immediately coming out of a bye week.
