Matty Beniers Lifts Kraken Over Flames 2-1 in Overtime

Matty Beniers netted a breakaway goal 55 seconds into overtime to propel the Seattle Kraken to a 2-1 victory against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night. Netminder Joey Daccord delivered a solid performance with 25 saves to secure the win for Seattle.

Game Progression and Key Plays

Calgary opened the scoring with 7:45 remaining in the first period when Yegor Sharangovich deflected a blue-line slapshot from Zach Whitecloud past Daccord. Seattle appeared to equalize less than three minutes later, but an offside challenge by the Flames successfully overturned the goal credited to Berkly Catton.

Catton made up for the disallowed tally midway through the second period, beating Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf high with 6:51 left on the clock. The strike extended Catton’s active point streak to seven games and drew the Kraken level at 1-1.

Physical Play and Kraken Debut

The matchup grew contentious with 9:11 remaining in the third period when Calgary forward Martin Pospisil collided with Daccord behind the Seattle net, picking up his second goaltender interference penalty of the evening. The crash sparked a confrontation, leading Kraken defenseman Brandon Montour to shove Pospisil, which resulted in roughing penalties for both skaters.

The contest marked the Seattle debut of forward Matthew Wood, who started on a line alongside Chandler Stephenson and Freddy Gaudreau. Seattle acquired Wood from the Nashville Predators in exchange for Shane Wright on Nov. 1, though Wood did not register a point in his first appearance.

Dustin Wolf finished with 27 saves for Calgary (7-8-1), marking the team’s first overtime defeat of the season. The victory allowed Seattle (9-5-1) to rebound after suffering a 6-2 defeat to Calgary on Oct. 30. The Kraken will remain at home to face the New York Rangers on Saturday, while the Flames host the Anaheim Ducks on Friday.
