Three out of four Arizona Diamondbacks nominees earned National League Gold Glove awards for their defensive performances during the 2026 Major League Baseball season. Catcher Gabriel Moreno, shortstop Geraldo Perdomo, and right fielder Corbin Carroll were named winners, while utility player Ildemaro Vargas was a finalist.
The three honors match Arizona’s franchise record set in 2019, when Nick Ahmed, Zack Greinke, and David Peralta all earned Gold Gloves. Perdomo and Carroll captured their first career awards, whereas Moreno claimed his second after previously winning in 2023. Vargas was named a finalist in the utility category, which was awarded to Mauricio Dubón of the Atlanta Braves, who won the American League equivalent last season with the Houston Astros.
Corbin Carroll Anchors Outfield Defense
Despite batting .239 with 22 home runs during a lower-performing year at the plate, Carroll relied on his elite speed and defensive instincts in right field at Chase Field. He led all Major League right fielders with +10 Outs Above Average (OAA) and recorded +12 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS), placing second among National League right fielders. Carroll overcame previous perceptions regarding his arm strength to become the first Diamondbacks outfielder to win a Gold Glove since Peralta in 2019.
Gabriel Moreno Achieves Rare Historical Milestone
Moreno delivered an impressive season behind the plate, becoming only the second catcher in MLB history to win both a batting title and a Gold Glove in the same year. He joins Hall of Famer Joe Mauer, who accomplished the feat with the Minnesota Twins in 2008 and 2009. Moreno led all National League catchers with a career-high +14 DRS and posted an MLB-best 2.0 Defensive WAR, strengthening his position ahead of any future contract extension negotiations with Arizona.
Geraldo Perdomo Shows Sharp Infield Improvement
Perdomo earned his first career Gold Glove nomination and victory at shortstop, becoming the first Diamondbacks player at the position to take home the honor since Nick Ahmed’s consecutive wins in 2018 and 2019. Perdomo accumulated +16 OAA, ranking second in the National League and fourth among all MLB shortstops, alongside +8 DRS, which ranked second among NL shortstops. He significantly reduced his defensive mistakes, committing just 8 errors in 2026 compared to a career-high 18 errors in 2025 across a similar number of innings.
