Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has dismissed complaints from Liverpool regarding a controversial penalty decision during a 1-0 victory at Anfield. The Spanish coach insisted he maintains a large library of similar incidents that did not result in penalties.
Anfield Victory and Penalty Controversy
The Gunners achieved their first league triumph at Anfield since 2012, extending their lead at the summit of the Premier League table to three points. The fixture sparked frustration from the home side after defender Jurrien Timber avoided punishment for pulling Alexander Isak’s shirt inside the penalty box.
Following the game, Reds manager Andoni Iraola voiced criticism over the call and indicated he might instruct his own players to go to ground in comparable scenarios moving forward. Addressing reporters ahead of a Champions League fixture against Slavia Prague, Arteta responded to questions concerning the challenge between Timber and Isak.
Although Arteta initially stated he had not viewed a replay right after the match, he rejected the notion that his team received an unfair advantage. As reported by 101 Great Goals, Arteta stated, “I have a lot of clips about shirts, pulls, grabs. I have a massive library that we can talk about. We’re talking about one in particular, I have a massive library that we can throw there to remind everybody what every team is going through.”
Previous Complaints Over Refereeing Consistency
This marks another instance of the Arsenal manager addressing officiating consistency by referencing collected evidence. Last month, Arteta disclosed that he had gathered video material showing opposing Premier League managers leaving their technical areas without getting booked.
Having already received yellow cards against Sunderland and Leeds during the current campaign, another caution would trigger a touchline ban for the Arsenal boss. Reflecting on managerial bookings previously, Arteta noted that certain coaches repeatedly leave the technical area without receiving cautions.
