Michael Carrick to Stay as Man Utd Manager for Roma Clash

Michael Carrick is set to remain in charge of Manchester United for the Champions League fixture against Roma at Old Trafford on Tuesday, despite a 2-0 defeat at Chelsea on Saturday.

Managerial Future Under Review

Manchester United have endured a nine-match winless run, marking their worst start to a season since 1988. The club sits 17th in the Premier League table with seven points, staying clear of the relegation zone only on goal difference. Carrick’s position is expected to face another review during the upcoming international break following the next round of Premier League fixtures, which sees United host Aston Villa next Sunday.

Carrick narrowly avoided dismissal last Monday when director of football Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada met at the training ground to evaluate his future. The executives ultimately decided to give the 45-year-old head coach an opportunity to improve team form and results.

Club Leadership and Potential Successors

Club hierarchy members still believe Carrick can reverse the team’s fortunes, supported by traveling fans who backed him at the conclusion of Saturday’s match at Stamford Bridge. Following the game, Carrick stated that he anticipates remaining in his position for the upcoming Roma fixture, noting, “We’ve got to move forward and win matches, it’s as simple as that.”

Should Carrick be dismissed, Wilcox favors Eddie Howe as his primary candidate, with preliminary contact reportedly established. Howe is open to the role pending negotiations, and securing him from Newcastle would require an estimated compensation fee of £3 million.

Meanwhile, recruitment director Christopher Vivell holds a high opinion of Julian Nagelsmann, the former Germany and Bayern Munich head coach. Vivell is believed to have sounded out his fellow countryman, with whom he previously collaborated at RB Leipzig.
