Mexican GP Honors F1 Legends and Lewis Hamilton’s Bulldog Roscoe

Organizers of the Mexican Grand Prix have created a Day of the Dead paddock display remembering late Formula 1 figures, which surprisingly includes Lewis Hamilton’s bulldog, Roscoe. The seven-time world champion’s pet was honored alongside some of the sport’s biggest historic names, with his photograph placed centrally underneath Ayrton Senna.

Day of the Dead Paddock Tribute

Surrounding the central portrait of Roscoe and Senna were images of Enzo Ferrari, Jack Brabham, Juan Manuel Fangio, James Hunt, Patrick Depailler, Pedro Rodríguez, and Jean-Marie Balestre. Additional walls featured portraits of other F1 luminaries such as Alberto Ascari, Graham Hill, Roland Ratzenberger, Alex Zanardi, Colin Chapman, Max Mosley, Eddie Jordan, Stirling Moss, José Abed, Ricardo Rodríguez, and Jochen Rindt.

These memorials spanned multiple walls, decorated with black-and-white photographs, candles, and framed arches made of orange marigolds. Día de Muertos ranks among Mexico’s premier traditions and coincides with the race weekend. Families traditionally construct altars called ofrendas featuring photos, candles, and marigolds to honor deceased loved ones, a practice that frequently includes family pets.

Supporters shared their reactions to the installation online. One Reddit user noted, “Roscoe never raced a single lap, but somehow became one of the most loved faces in the paddock. Mexico absolutely nailed this tribute.” Another commenter wrote, “This is so sweet of them, Lewis will love it,” while others called the inclusion touching and a class act.

Current F1 Calendar Status

This event takes place during the Mexican Grand Prix, which serves as the second stop in the season’s penultimate triple-header. The event follows the United States Grand Prix, secured by championship leader Kimi Antonelli, and precedes next week’s race in Brazil.

The 2024 campaign is scheduled to conclude with a final triple-header spanning Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi.
