Mercedes Deputy Team Principal Bradley Lord shared similar sentiments regarding the distinct characteristics of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, noting that the team holds the potential to contend for pole position at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
Challenges and Performance at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez
Lord described the opening day of practice as solid rather than spectacular, highlighting the technical hurdles presented by the high-altitude venue. According to Lord, managing power unit cooling, brake cooling, and boost control without the assistance of an MGU-H unit creates significant difficulties for the team.
He explained that achieving a fast single-lap pace while maintaining competitive race runs requires striking a delicate balance at the circuit. The team has addressed some initial questions, though further data analysis is necessary to determine the optimal setup compromise for the remainder of the weekend.
Lord stated that the squad consistently aims to battle for the front rows of the grid, expressing confidence in their ability to achieve this goal if they make the correct adjustments moving forward.
