The Vienna Open has concluded for another year, with Carlos Alcaraz clinching the title on his tournament debut after defeating world number 10 Alex de Minaur in the Sunday final. Alcaraz secured a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the championship match, bringing his record to 15-2 on the ATP Tour since returning from a long-term injury in August.

Record-Breaking Attendance in Vienna

Last year, the Vienna Open set a tournament record by attracting approximately 82,000 fans to the event. Event organisers surpassed that milestone at the 2026 tournament, with 90,000 fans attending to watch players such as Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev compete in the Austrian capital. According to the tournament website, the Marx Halle stadium attracted around 1,000 more visitors per day compared to 2025.

While the exact impact of Alcaraz’s presence cannot be definitively measured, the 23-year-old Spaniard is considered one of the most popular players on the ATP Tour. Making his tournament debut at the 2026 Vienna Open, fans were eager to see the seven-time major champion compete in person.

Alcaraz’s Path to the Vienna Title

Alcaraz secured the championship through a series of victories throughout the week:

  • First Round: defeated Karen Khachanov 6-4, 7-6
  • Second Round: defeated Nikolos Basilashvili 6-1, 7-6
  • Quarter-finals: defeated Tommy Paul 6-4, 7-6
  • Semi-finals: defeated Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 7-6
  • Final: defeated Alex de Minaur 6-1, 6-4

Upcoming Campaign at the Paris Masters

Following his success in Austria, Alcaraz has travelled to France to pursue his first Paris Masters title. As the second seed, Alcaraz received an automatic bye to the second round. He will face either Alex Michelsen or Jiri Lehecka in his opening match, holding a 1-0 record against Michelsen and a 4-1 record against Lehecka.

If Alcaraz advances to the third round, he will likely face either 14th seed Brandon Nakashima or French player Ugo Humbert. Alcaraz is scheduled to play his first Paris Masters match on Wednesday.
