Sergio Garcia Eyes DP World Tour Return and Ryder Cup Spot

Sergio Garcia has announced that he will compete on the DP World Tour for the 2027 season following his exit from LIV Golf. The 46-year-old Spanish golfer confirmed his future plans in a social media statement on Thursday, while also revealing that he remains open to a potential return to the PGA Tour.

“Next season, I’ll be playing on the DP World Tour,” Garcia wrote, describing the circuit as a key foundation of his career. “I’m also keeping my options open for a return to the PGA Tour. And probably the most exciting part for me is strengthening my personal relationships, both new and old.”

Ryder Cup Ambitions and Masters Reflection

The former major champion stated that he is “putting a big focus on a strong mindset and my mental health” as he aims to earn a spot on Luke Donald’s European team for the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor. Garcia stands as Team Europe’s all-time leading points scorer with 28.5 points across 10 tournament appearances, with his most recent participation occurring at Whistling Straits in 2021.

Garcia also addressed an outburst at Augusta National during his last appearance at the venue, where he snapped his driver on the second hole tee box and received his first career code-of-conduct warning at the tournament. The 2017 Green Jacket winner expressed a desire to show personal growth when he next competes at the event.

“I can’t wait to get back to The Masters,” Garcia stated. “I left Augusta (in 2026) disappointed with myself and my actions, and I’m ready to show what I’ve learned and where I am mentally.” He added, “Augusta has given me some of the greatest moments of my life, and I’d love nothing more than to chase another green jacket at such a special place.”

PGA Tour Status and LIV Golf Exit

After joining LIV Golf in 2022, Garcia’s final non-major start on the PGA Tour came at that year’s Wells Fargo Championship, where he was overheard saying, “I can’t wait to leave this tour.” Hold of 11 PGA Tour titles, Garcia will need to wait until August 2027 before becoming eligible to play on the US tour again due to its 12-month suspension rule applied to players who joined LIV Golf.

Sky Sports reports that LIV Golf is emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy backed by a $300 million commitment from BC Partners Credit, moving forward without Saudi financial backing. Garcia requested and obtained approval to leave the breakaway tour, joining several other top golfers—including Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Louis Oosthuizen, and Ian Poulter—who have also decided to leave LIV Golf.
