Real Madrid established firm control of their LaLiga match against Racing Santander at El Sardinero, securing a three-goal advantage before half-time through a controversial Kylian Mbappe penalty alongside strikes from Jude Bellingham and Yan Diomande.
Early Controversy and First-Half Dominance
Real Madrid went into the fixture needing a victory to move within three points of league leaders Barcelona, following their victory over their rivals in the Clasico the previous week. The visitors gained an early advantage in the 11th minute when Mbappe went down inside the penalty area under a challenge from Matteo Prati. Although video replays indicated there was no physical contact, the decision remained unchanged after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) check.
Mbappe converted the penalty to open the scoring, maintaining his record of having scored against all 24 opponents he has faced in LaLiga. Real Madrid extended their lead shortly after when Arda Guler delivered a through-ball to Bellingham, who rounded goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala before finishing into an empty net.
Diomande provided the third goal before the interval with a powerful effort. The Ivorian sent an unstoppable volley into the top-left corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area, putting Real Madrid in complete control heading into the second half.
