Bills Secondary Earns High Grades Against Ravens

The Buffalo Bills defensive secondary delivered a strong performance against a Baltimore Ravens offense forced to rely on a third-string quarterback making his debut as an undrafted rookie. Bleacher Report evaluated the individual performances across Buffalo’s defensive backfield, issuing high marks to the team’s cornerbacks and safeties.

Cornerbacks Secure Tight Coverage

Cornerback Christian Benford received an A grade for what was described as a practically perfect day in pass coverage. Benford kept the Ravens’ passing attack contained throughout his snaps against Baltimore’s backup signal-caller.

Rookie cornerback Davison Igbinosun earned a B grade, highlighted by his first career interception. While Igbinosun missed a tackle that resulted in a first down for Ravens running back Justice Hill and likely avoided a late first-half pass interference penalty, his performance remained a net positive.

Cornerback Te’Cory Couch posted an A grade in his debut as a position player. Filling in for Dee Alford in the slot, Couch served as the primary defender on Zay Flowers, holding the receiver without a catch on five targets to mark the first zero-catch game of Flowers’ career. Couch proved to be a reliable tackler and could maintain a spot in the cornerback rotation over Maxwell Hairston once Alford recovers.

Safeties Make Impact Plays

Safety Cole Bishop received an A+ grade, marking his best outing of the season. Bishop’s performance was highlighted by a second-quarter strip-sack on Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley, alongside sound play throughout the contest.

Safety Damar Hamlin earned a B+ grade while filling in for C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Hamlin handled defensive assignments effectively, including coverage responsibilities involving Flowers, executing a solid overall performance.

Safety Geno Stone rounded out the group with an A grade in his team debut after being elevated from the practice squad. Stone co-led the Bills with six tackles despite playing only 19 snaps. He registered an open-field tackle for loss on Hill to force an early punt and deflected a pass that led directly to Igbinosun’s interception.
