Red Bull has signed Alan Permane to a new contract extension to remain the team principal of the Racing Bulls Formula 1 squad. Permane will continue leading the Faenza-based outfit through the conclusion of the 2031 season.
Career Background and Leadership Role
Permane spent a significant portion of his career with the Alpine squad, working from 1989 to 2023 in roles such as race engineer and sporting director. He moved to Racing Bulls, previously known as RB, ahead of the 2024 season as racing director before stepping up to the team principal position after Laurent Mekies transitioned to a role at Red Bull.
Oliver Mintzlaff, CEO Corporate Projects and Investments at Red Bull, stated that Permane is doing a tremendous job and that the team’s progress reflects his experience, commitment, and competitive mindset. Mintzlaff noted that Permane brings clarity, composure, and a deep understanding of Formula 1 performance while fostering a productive working environment.
Mintzlaff added that the results achieved by Visa Cash App Racing Bulls in recent seasons highlight the organization’s strength. He emphasized that Permane and Co-CEO Commercial Peter Bayer form a strong, experienced leadership team with complementary strengths, providing stability and continuity for future development.
Team Progress and Future Ambitions
Permane expressed immense pride in continuing his journey with VCARB and thanked Red Bull for their trust and support. He praised the shared spirit of the team across trackside operations, Faenza, and Milton Keynes, calling it a privilege to lead such a talented group.
Permane noted that fighting for fifth place in the championship is a proud achievement built on years of hard work, but stressed that the team is not finished yet. Discussing the team’s upward trajectory in Baku, Permane told Sky Sports F1 that the squad has steadily added downforce to the car and that every upgrade brought to the track has functioned properly.
The Italian team has experienced consistent growth under Permane’s leadership, accumulating 46 points in 2024, 92 points the following year, and 108 points in the current season. The squad is nearly assured of securing fifth place in the constructors’ championship, marking its highest finish since its origins as Minardi in 1985.
