Newcastle United manager Matthias Jaissle maintains he retains the full backing of the club hierarchy and his players despite increasing scrutiny following recent setbacks. The Magpies prepare to visit Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon aiming to turn around a challenging stretch of results.
Recent Form and Supporter Discontent
Discontent surfaced at St James’ Park on Monday night when home supporters booed the team after a 1-0 defeat against Everton. The result marked Newcastle’s second loss to Everton within four days, following their elimination from the EFL Cup at Hill Dickinson Stadium the previous week. The club has now suffered four defeats in five matches, dropping to 13th position in the Premier League table.
Jaissle, who unexpectedly replaced Eddie Howe in the manager’s seat over the summer, rejected any notion that the dressing room has lost belief. He highlighted that communication within the squad remains strong and accessible.
Addressing squad unity, Jaissle said, “When you see them in training and see how we are doing, I am pretty sure that everyone understands and are fully committed.” He acknowledged that while the squad remains disappointed by recent outcomes, the players are eager to take responsibility and respond on the pitch.
Tactical Approach and Internal Backing
Amid suggestions that players have struggled to adapt to his tactical ideas, the German coach explained that his management strategy centers on continuous dialogue. He noted that the coaching staff keeps doors open to clarify tactical roles whenever necessary, attributing the recent loss to poor execution rather than structural confusion.
Jaissle also indicated that he feels secure regarding his position at Newcastle despite outside speculation. “The nice part is that I got more of a feeling from within the club about how committed they are and that is something really important in a week where there is speculation or rumours,” he stated, adding that he aims to avoid being distracted by external noise.
Ahead of the fixture in London, Newcastle’s squad availability presents a mixed picture. Young midfielder Lewis Miley continues to make steady progress, while Matias Fernandez-Pardo is available after recovering from a virus. However, experienced midfielder Joelinton faces another stint on the sidelines. Regarding the Brazilian, Jaissle confirmed, “Joelinton unfortunately went out with an injury again and we need to make the final treatment plan for him and see how long he will be out for.”
