Australian fighter Tom Nolan earned the biggest victory of his career by stopping Renato Moicano via third-round TKO in the main event of UFC Vegas 123 in Las Vegas. However, the outcome was overshadowed by a controversial decision from referee Dan Miragliotta in the second round.
Controversial Stand-Up Shifts Main Event
Moicano established firm control early in the fight, landing a quick takedown in the opening round. In the second round, the Brazilian secured another takedown and took back control with a body lock. Despite Moicano maintaining a dominant position, Miragliotta stepped in to stand both fighters up.
The referee’s intervention immediately shifted momentum in favor of Nolan, who hurt Moicano with strikes before the end of the second round. Nolan capitalized on the damage early in the third round, completing the victory with ground-and-pound punches at 1:28 of Round 3.
Smith, Durden, and Erosa Secure Main Card Wins
In co-main action, undefeated Jacobe Smith collected his second victory of the month by defeating Randy Brown via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-26). Smith controlled the fight with his wrestling, keeping Brown grounded for long stretches and opening a significant cut above Brown’s eyebrow. Following the bout, Smith voiced his intention to target a ranked opponent in the top 15.
Flyweight Cody Durden also earned a unanimous decision win (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) over rival Ode’ Osbourne. Durden relied on early ground control and nearly locked in a Twister submission. Although Osbourne rallied to win the final round, Durden secured the victory on the scorecards.
Meanwhile, Julian Erosa concluded his professional mixed martial arts career with a first-round stoppage over JeongYeong Lee. After surviving early danger, Erosa dropped Lee with a powerful right hand and finished the fight with ground-and-pound strikes at 1:31 of Round 1.
