Marquez Admits He Would Rather Avoid Qatar GP

MotoGP world championship leader Marc Marquez confessed he would prefer to be anywhere other than Doha ahead of the upcoming Qatar Grand Prix.

Pre-Event Press Conference Comments

During a media session characterized by low attendance due to travel reluctance among journalists, Marquez addressed questions regarding safety concerns at the venue. “I would like to be in another place,” the Spanish rider stated, as reported by Autosport.com. “Pero por esa razón, I arrived on the latest flight possible and I will leave on the earliest flight possible. But we are here, ready to race and fully concentrated.” Marquez stands in a position to potentially secure the world championship title.

Paddock Tension and Rider Perspectives

While some competitors remarked that conditions at the circuit appeared normal, Trackhouse Aprilia rider Raul Fernandez offered a contrasting viewpoint. Fernandez described the atmosphere in the paddock as unusual and acknowledged lingering concerns over his physical condition due to a broken index finger that may require him to adjust his braking technique. “This is a strange weekend, to be honest,” Fernandez told Autosport.com. “I’m not 100% on form, and the situation is a bit tricky. Because the tension we’re all feeling isn’t exactly ideal.”

Fernandez noted that the general unease stems from individuals sharing Marquez’s sentiment about wanting to be away from the region. He pointed to the psychological weight experienced by personnel working at the venue near a conflict zone. Fernandez added that recent shifts in the political landscape in the United States have mitigated some worries, concluding that immediate danger appears minimal.

Track action in Doha continues as riders prepare for the weekend following medical clearance for participants including Fernandez.
