The Atlanta Braves are already looking toward the future despite the conclusion of the season, securing 17-year-old Cuban catching prospect Anthony Calderon. As part of the current international class rather than the upcoming one, the young player joins the organization with a reported signing bonus of $350,000. This figure matches the amount given to breakout catching prospect Jorwin Pulido during the previous winter, tying Calderon for the fifth-largest signing in the team’s current class.
Prospect Profile and Recruitment
Standing at 6 feet 4 inches, Calderon possesses a physically strong and well-developed frame for a player of his age. Alongside developing power at the plate, his defensive skills and intangible qualities generated significant interest from major league scouts. To secure his signature, the Braves competed against several other organizations, including the Miami Marlins, Texas Rangers, and Kansas City Royals.
Following the completion of this agreement, the Braves retain $533,700 in their 2026 international bonus pool funds.
