Kyle Larson Nears Third NASCAR Cup Series Title

Kyle Larson enters the final race of the NASCAR Cup Series season holding a commanding lead over his remaining championship rivals. With a 67-point advantage over Christopher Bell and 70 points over Denny Hamlin, Larson needs only nine points at the upcoming season finale to secure his third championship in six seasons.

Championship Rivals Concede Defeat

Following the penultimate race, where Larson rallied to a ninth-place finish despite losing a lap and missing out on stage points, the remaining contenders acknowledged the near-impossibility of overturning the deficit. Hamlin described the championship situation as a fourth-down scenario with seconds remaining, telling Motorsport.com that his title run is unrealistic and that he will simply go to the finale to do the required promotional duties.

Bell, who finished 10th in the race, noted that his title hopes were not lost at the final event, pointing instead to earlier issues during the playoffs at tracks like Talladega and Gateway, alongside a steering problem in Las Vegas.

Reflecting on his position, Larson told Motorsport.com that pressure still exists because unpredictable Next-Gen car incidents, such as flat tires or broken toe links, can alter points unexpectedly. Even so, he plans to maintain his aggressive driving style close to the wall, where he feels most comfortable.

Reflections from Hendrick Motorsports

Hamlin’s crew chief, Chris Gayle, admitted that the top-seeded team failed to execute consistently after starting the year strongly with four wins in the first 26 races, failing to secure a victory across the final nine events.

Hendrick Motorsports president Jeff Andrews praised the internal resilience of the organization and its four crew chiefs after recovering from a difficult start to the year, which included a lengthy winless streak for Larson. Andrews highlighted the team’s belief and collaborative culture in guiding them back to championship contention.

Looking ahead to the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, crew chief Cliff Daniels told Motorsport.com that the team will maintain its established preparation and provide Larson with a competitive car to finish the job.

The Hendrick Motorsports No. 5 team requires only a steady performance at the upcoming event to officially claim the title.
