Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels expressed deep frustration with his team’s performance after falling into an early 10-0 deficit against the shorthanded Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night. Despite bouncing back for a 27-10 victory, the rookie quarterback did not hold back when discussing the sluggish beginning to the game.
A Frustrating Start
Speaking to reporters after the game, as reported by The Athletic’s David Aldridge, Daniels called the opening sequence “complete BS.” During the first half, a sideline video captured him having an intense discussion with his offensive linemen.
The early struggles included a missed field goal on the opening drive, a quick three-and-out, and a disastrous third possession that featured back-to-back penalties followed by a fumble from tight end Chig Okonkwo on the very first play.
The frustration was heightened because the Commanders entered the matchup fresh off a bye week following a 1-4-1 start, facing an Eagles squad playing without injured quarterback Jalen Hurts and several other key contributors.
Turning Things Around
Washington completely flipped the script starting in the second quarter, tightening up its defense and finding an offensive rhythm. The team ultimately out-gained Philadelphia 339 to 268 in total yards and won the turnover battle by a plus-one margin, scoring 27 unanswered points.
Head coach Dan Quinn emphasized the need for total consistency moving forward, noting that the team only played three strong quarters instead of a complete four. The Commanders will need to address these lingering issues as they prepare for upcoming matchups against the Los Angeles Rams, New York Giants, and Cincinnati Bengals.
