Greg Newsome, Giants Agree to Three-Year Contract Extension

The New York Giants reached an agreement on a three-year contract extension worth $46 million with cornerback Greg Newsome on Tuesday, as reported by NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Contract Details and Season Performance

According to Schultz, the new agreement includes $32 million in guaranteed money. Newsome joined the Giants on a one-year free-agent deal on March 10 and is now locked in under contract through the 2029 campaign.

After winning a training camp battle for a starting role, Newsome has produced 25 tackles, six passes defended, and one interception across six games. Pro Football Focus notes that he has surrendered just a 62.0 passer rating when targeted.

Defensive Impact

Newsome has emerged as a key contributor for a New York secondary that currently ranks third in the NFL for pass defense, conceding only 184.9 passing yards per game. Giants defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson expressed strong appreciation for Newsome’s contributions on October 8, highlighting his leadership, work ethic, and film study habits alongside safety Jevón Holland.

Originally drafted in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, Newsome started in Cleveland prior to a mid-season trade to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2025. Over 77 career games, he has accumulated 49 passes defended, six tackles for loss, and five interceptions.

Newsome will continue to anchor the New York defense as the 4-2-1 team aims to extend its success this season.
