Carson Beck Ready to Play After Cardinals QB Shake-Up

Arizona Cardinals rookie quarterback Carson Beck moved closer to a potential starting opportunity after the team adjusted its quarterback depth chart. Beck advanced from the emergency third-string role to the backup position following the team’s decision to name veteran Gardner Minshew as the new starting quarterback.

Coach Confident in Rookie’s Progress

Head coach Mike LaFleur stated during a Monday press conference that the rookie is fully prepared to enter the game if necessary. LaFleur explained that every player on the roster must prepare as if they are the starter, noting that the young quarterback has a complete grasp of the offensive system and game plan.

The Cardinals drafted Beck in the third round with the No. 65 overall pick during the 2026 NFL Draft, though he has not yet appeared in a regular-season contest. Although Beck missed the first eight games as an inactive player and battled back spasms recently, LaFleur expressed strong confidence in his ongoing development and confirmed he stands as the next player up.

Path to the Backup Role

Gardner Minshew secured the starting job after replacing starter Jacoby Brissett during the third quarter of Arizona’s 33-30 win against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8.

Bleacher Report noted that Beck previously sparked excitement during his preseason debut against the Carolina Panthers in the Hall of Fame Game, where he completed 15 of 19 passes for 188 yards and one touchdown before a rib injury sidelined him for the rest of the preseason.
