Thomas Tuchel Leaves Cole Palmer Out of England Squad

England manager Thomas Tuchel explained that Cole Palmer misses too many opportunities to make an impression after omitting the Chelsea forward from the squad for November’s Nations League fixtures. The 24-year-old previously withdrew from the squad for early autumn matches and will sit out upcoming games against Croatia at Wembley and Spain in Madrid.

Squad Selections and New Faces

Tuchel instead selected Fulham’s Josh King and Borussia Dortmund’s Jobe Bellingham for their debut England call-ups, noting that the team has sufficient players in the number 10 role and wanted to maintain consistency from the previous camp. Tuchel stated that he plans to use King across multiple attacking positions. Regarding Palmer, Tuchel added that every player is eager to represent the national team, but evaluation happens when players are actively in camp.

Jobe Bellingham, 21, joins his brother Jude in the squad, raising the possibility of the two brothers appearing together on the pitch for the first time since Gary and Phil Neville.

Injuries and Returning Players

Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka was left out of the November matches following a quadriceps injury sustained against Bayern Munich, with his club expecting a six-week absence. Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott was also omitted due to an injury picked up against Croatia in October, though he is reportedly nearing a return for his club. Other absentees include Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, Newcastle’s Tino Livramento, Como’s Trevoh Chalobah, and Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly.

Meanwhile, Everton midfielder James Garner and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White kept their places after joining the previous camp late. Arsenal defender Ben White and Inter Milan’s Djed Spence returned to the squad for the first time since the summer, while Declan Rice and Ezri Konsa returned after recovering from previous withdrawals.

England faces Croatia on Thursday, 12 November, followed by a match against Spain in Madrid on Sunday, 15 November.
