The Baltimore Ravens are finalizing a trade to acquire veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett from the Arizona Cardinals. While he will not arrive in time to play in Thursday’s matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team expects him to take the field by Week 10.
Quarterback Situation in Baltimore
The Ravens entered the season with championship aspirations anchored by star quarterback Lamar Jackson. However, the team has fallen into scramble mode following injuries to both Jackson, who is dealing with a thumb issue, and backup Tyler Huntley, who has a toe injury.
With both top options sidelined, undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano will start Thursday’s game against Jacksonville. Fagnano saw action during the team’s recent loss to the Buffalo Bills, completing 10 of 21 pass attempts for 91 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception.
Trade Details and Brissett’s Timeline
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the expectation is for Brissett to start against the Los Angeles Chargers on November 16, following reports from Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter that a trade is being finalized and expected to be completed over the weekend. Brissett also restructured his contract as part of the move.
Brissett became expendable in Arizona after being benched during the team’s overtime victory against the Dallas Cowboys. In that game, Gardner Minshew II stepped in and erased a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit with touchdown passes to Tyler Allgeier, Trey McBride, and Michael Wilson. With Minshew and rookie Carson Beck also on the roster, the Cardinals allowed the veteran quarterback to move on.
The Ravens currently sit in last place in the AFC North with a 4-4 record following three consecutive losses. Despite a talented offensive roster featuring Derrick Henry, Zay Flowers, and Mark Andrews, the team’s success for the remainder of the season will hinge on quarterback performance once Brissett takes over.
