Chicago Bears wide receivers Luther Burden III and Rome Odunze have shown significant improvement over the last three games following quarterback Caleb Williams’ return from a hamstring injury. Both players are recommended as strong starting options for Week 9 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Analyzing the Week 9 Matchup
While the Buccaneers present a challenging defense, currently ranking sixth in the fewest fantasy points allowed to opposing wide receivers, the Bears demonstrated their ability to overcome difficult defensive matchups in Week 8 against the Seattle Seahawks.
Luther Burden III has been particularly productive, recording at least 17.5 PPR points in three consecutive games. In his most recent outing against Seattle, he secured seven receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown on nine targets. He is considered a viable No. 2 fantasy receiver across all league formats.
Rome Odunze has also found a rhythm, posting at least 10.7 PPR points in each of his last two appearances. During the Week 8 game, he tallied four catches for 87 yards on six targets. He is recommended as a starter in all leagues that utilize three wide receiver positions.
Evaluating the Buccaneers’ Defense
Although Tampa Bay successfully contained the passing games of the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons over the past two weeks, their secondary has shown vulnerability earlier in the season. Both the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers saw two receivers score at least 12 PPR points against the Buccaneers in the same game, specifically involving George Pickens, Ryan Flournoy, DK Metcalf, and Germie Bernard.
Given their recent upward trajectory, Burden and Odunze are expected to produce similar results. Their performance in Week 9 will be a key focal point for fantasy managers looking to capitalize on their recent momentum.
