Pat Murphy Regrets Viral Comments Ripping Yankees After Win

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy addressed a viral video where he used profanity to criticize the New York Yankees following his team’s World Series victory in Game 5. During the celebration, Murphy was caught on a hot mic telling first baseman and pending free agent Jake Bauers that he would soon become wealthy, while disparaging the Yankees as a team where players operate for themselves.

Addressing the Yankees and Brian Cashman

Unaware that his microphone was recording, Murphy also advised Bauers to remember the Brewers’ team culture if he ever joined the New York franchise. According to the Bleacher Report, Murphy stated, “just remember when you are on that horses–t [New York] Yankees team and you guys are all playing for yourselves? Just remember, say, ‘This is the way we used to do it.'”

Following the incident, Murphy reached out directly to New York general manager Brian Cashman to explain the situation, as reported by Bleacher Report. Speaking on the New York Post’s “The Show” podcast, Murphy stated he called Cashman immediately upon learning his remarks had spread. He explained that his comments were not directed at the 2026 Yankees specifically, but rather at high-spending organizations with massive rosters and heavy expectations.

Murphy clarified during the podcast appearance that his remarks targeted teams with high expectations where players may focus on individual success rather than collective team chemistry. He expressed clear remorse for the statements made during the championship celebration, telling the podcast, “I regret saying it.”
