Brittany Mahomes Slams Penalty in Chiefs’ Loss to Broncos

The wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes strongly criticized the false start penalty that nullified a late touchdown during a 28-24 defeat against the Denver Broncos.

Disputed Penalty Ruins Late Score

Writing on her Instagram Story, Brittany Mahomes described the penalty as the weakest call she had ever witnessed. Patrick Mahomes connected with wide receiver Rashee Rice for what would have been the go-ahead touchdown, but officials blew the play dead prior to the snap. The star quarterback questioned if right tackle Jaylon Moore’s movement justified the infraction, stating that it did not surprise or catch him.

Patrick Mahomes told reporters that teams must accept whatever referees decide, though he noted that minor details often escape the whistle in crucial moments. Head coach Andy Reid shared a similar sentiment, stating he failed to spot the penalty and only noticed Moore move his head.

Replays and Missed Opportunities

Television replays ultimately revealed that Moore’s right foot shifted slightly backward, which constitutes a false start under league rules. While the penalty proved decisive, the Chiefs also surrendered an 11-point lead during the final quarter. Before the penalty occurred, the offense failed to score on three separate attempts from within four yards of the goal line.
