Tenerife Striker in Intensive Care Following Serious Injury

Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel is currently in a stable condition within an intensive care unit after sustaining a serious injury during a Spanish second division fixture.

Collision During Stoppage Time

The 30-year-old forward suffered injuries to his head and chest during added time in Tenerife’s home match against Andorra. The incident took place seven minutes into stoppage time with the two teams tied at 2-2. Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono sprinted toward the centre circle to clear a long ball when his knee appeared to collide with De Miguel.

De Miguel remained motionless on the pitch while medical staff rushed to treat him. He was subsequently transported by ambulance from Tenerife’s Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez to the University Hospital of Nuestra Senora de Candelaria. Spanish media outlets, including Marca, reported that De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest inside the ambulance and was successfully resuscitated by paramedics on the way to the hospital.

Match Abandoned After Red Card

The severity of the situation left players from both squads visibly distressed, with several of De Miguel’s team-mates reduced to tears. The referee issued a straight red card to Owono before deciding to abandon the match altogether.

Tenerife released a statement confirming that the Madrid-born player was admitted to the hospital and remained stable despite the severity of his condition. Andorra also issued a statement expressing support, stating they wanted to send all their strength and best wishes to the player while hoping for a swift recovery, alongside a very strong hug to the player, his family, and Tenerife.
