Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is preparing his team to face Roma in the Champions League tomorrow night as pressure mounts on his position following a difficult run of results.

Focus on the Champions League

A 2-0 defeat against Chelsea on Saturday extended Manchester United’s winless streak to nine matches across all competitions, leaving the club sitting just above the Premier League relegation zone on goal difference. Reports indicate that Carrick has the upcoming European fixture against Roma and a weekend match against Aston Villa to improve the team’s fortunes, but the manager maintained a positive outlook during his pre-match press conference on Monday.

According to 101 Great Goals, Carrick stated when asked about his personal situation, “That has no influence on how we prepare for the game tomorrow. I can’t wait for the game. That is all I am focused on. What happens after, happens. Whatever direction it goes in.”

Squad Commitment and Morale

Despite a series of disappointing performances, Carrick expressed confidence that his squad’s displays and results will soon turn around through hard work behind the scenes. He explained that the team knows its capabilities, pointing to positive spells during recent matches such as the first half against Chelsea, and emphasized that the group is close to breaking their winless run.

Addressing the challenges at the club, Carrick noted that finding solutions requires staying strong, providing proper leadership, and pushing the players. He added that his mindset remains unchanged, noting that he loves his role and working with the players.

Defensive Issues and Martinez Support

Manchester United’s prospects against Chelsea suffered a setback when defender Lisandro Martinez received a second yellow card and a subsequent red mark for striking Wesley Fofana just after the hour mark, allowing Cole Palmer to score a penalty for the hosts. Although Martinez has struggled for form this season and previously criticized the club’s summer transfers, Carrick defended the Argentina international’s dedication.

Carrick stated that he has no concerns regarding Martinez, noting that mistakes happen in football while commitment remains unquestioned. The manager further asserted that overall morale in the squad is high, explaining that the dressing room is in a positive state and player commitment to the club and coaching staff is absolute.

Player Backing and Team News

Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo voiced his support for the manager, expressing gratitude for the trust and guidance Carrick has provided since taking over. Mainoo noted that he takes the manager’s advice to heart and applies it daily, acknowledging that the club experiences highs and lows on the path to success.

As preparations conclude, Manchester United will be without Luke Shaw due to injury for tomorrow night’s fixture, while Leny Yoro and Marcus Rashford remain doubtful to feature.
