Following considerable anticipation, the NHL has unveiled the league-wide Hometown Remix jerseys for the 2026-27 season, featuring a distinctive design from the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Design and Details of the New Jerseys
The new uniforms incorporate navy blue as the primary color, paired with powder blue sleeve, shoulder, and pant stripes, along with gold accents. The design includes the popular igloo shoulder patch, offset logo and number detailing, and various colors representing Pittsburgh-area neighborhoods along the bottom in-seam. The overall aesthetic channels a 1960s pop art style in tribute to Pittsburgh native Andy Warhol.
The most debated feature of the uniform is the inclusion of polka-dots on the yellow elements of the logo and the numbers, styled to evoke comic-book and graphic design elements of that era. These dots appear smaller and more striking than they did in earlier leaked images. The return to a blue color scheme and the addition of the polka-dots drew mixed reactions from fans and commentators alike.
Reactions and Media Rankings
Social media response to the uniforms varied, with Patrick Damp expressing approval on Bluesky by stating that the contrasting blues and full kit look great. Meanwhile, media outlets held differing views on the design; ESPN placed the Penguins’ Hometown Remix jerseys at No. 1 in their rankings, whereas The Athletic positioned them at No. 12.
Penguins Remix Jersey Schedule
The Pittsburgh Penguins are scheduled to wear the Hometown Remix jerseys during ten games throughout the season, beginning with a matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights on Nov. 3. Subsequent appearances are set for Nov. 28 against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Dec. 6 against the San Jose Sharks, Dec. 18 against the Seattle Kraken, Jan. 21 against the Anaheim Ducks, Feb. 2 against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Mar. 9 against the Ottawa Senators, Mar. 25 against the New Jersey Devils, Mar. 30 against the Philadelphia Flyers, and April 1 against the New York Islanders.
