Carlos Alcaraz secured a straight-set victory over Alex de Minaur to capture the Vienna Open title and extend his flawless record in ATP 500 tournaments throughout the year.
Dominant Run at ATP 500 Level
The second-seeded Spanish player triumphed 6-1 6-4 in an 87-minute final to record his 16th consecutive victory at this tournament level in 2026. Alcaraz currently boasts a 26-match winning streak at ATP 500 events, stretching back to the 2025 Barcelona Open when he suffered a defeat against Holger Rune. The 23-year-old’s impressive sequence this year also features championship victories in Doha and Tokyo.
Following his latest triumph, Alcaraz explained his tactical approach in the final. “I tried to be aggressive and show him that if he wants to win, he has to play better, more aggressive, more solid, and be smarter than me,” he stated. He added, “I’m just really happy that at the end I found my way, played great, and obviously it has been a really emotional and amazing week for me.”
Match Analysis and Head-to-Head Record
Alcaraz established early momentum with powerful groundstrokes that immediately troubled De Minaur. Although De Minaur forced five of the seven games in the opening set to deuce, the Spanish competitor capitalized on crucial moments by converting three breaks of serve.
The pressure persisted into the second set. Despite resilient defense from the 27-year-old Australian enabling him to fend off three break points, De Minaur failed to stop the championship point. The victory concluded with a thrilling rally finished by a cross-court forehand winner from Alcaraz, who celebrated by raising both arms. This result marks Alcaraz’s seventh career win against De Minaur, preserving his unbeaten head-to-head record against the Australian.
