The final Masters 1000 tournament of the season, ATP Paris, has arrived as a rare one-week event that could determine the final lineup for the ATP Finals. Although the draw is packed with top competitors, several notable athletes will be absent due to injuries and physical setbacks.
Players Who Have Withdrawn from ATP Paris
Defending champion Jannik Sinner chose to skip the entire indoor hard court swing, meaning he never entered the tournament. Sinner has officially lost the World No. 1 ranking, and despite dropping 1,000 points, he remains securely in the top two and will retain strong seeding heading into the 2027 season. Sinner completely dominated the tournament last year, and his absence opens the door for a new champion.
Felix Auger-Aliassime, who reached the final last year, has also withdrawn to end his season. Failing to defend his ranking points during his preferred surface of indoor hard courts has dropped him out of the top 10, with further ranking drops expected once his ATP Finals points expire. Joao Fonseca likewise concluded his season early due to an ongoing injury timeline, having remained sidelined since giving a walkover during the third round in Cincinnati.
The final two withdrawals stem from more recent physical issues as sports.yahoo.com reported. Alexander Bublik retired during his semifinal match against Daniil Medvedev in Almaty and has pulled out of subsequent tournaments. Jakub Mensik also withdrew because of an injury following his second-round loss in Vienna, ending his outside chances of qualifying for the ATP Finals.
Replacements in the ATP Paris Main Draw
With a condensed draw filled with top-tier competitors, every alternate competing in the main draw currently holds a ranking inside the top 50. Alternates Luca Van Assche, replacing Fonseca, and Mariano Navone, replacing Bublik, are scheduled to face each other in the opening round, with Van Assche holding a slight ranking advantage and home crowd support on indoor hard courts.
Matteo Berrettini enters the main draw following Auger-Aliassime’s withdrawal and must play Brandon Nakashima in the first round, just after Nakashima defeated him in straight sets in Shanghai. Quentin Halys gained entry following Mensik’s withdrawal just before the main draw was finalized. Halys already secured a wildcard that was subsequently given to Moise Kouame since Halys’ ranking was high enough for direct entry.
Daniel Merida rounds out the list of alternates by taking the spot left open by Sinner. Merida enters the tournament having experienced limited success on indoor hard courts so far.
