Jack Grealish was left out of Everton’s squad for their Carabao Cup match against Newcastle due to a breach of club discipline. Everton made the public announcement regarding the player’s omission on social media prior to the fourth-round tie at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Disciplinary Action and Manager Response
The club stated on X that Jarrad Branthwaite was unavailable due to concussion protocols, while Jack Grealish was left out because of a disciplinary breach. Sources indicate the 31-year-old midfielder failed to attend training on Monday without authorization. The decision to drop him was made by manager David Moyes alongside Everton chief executive Angus Kinnear.
Following Everton’s 3-1 victory, Moyes stated, “I’m not going to give any details. It was a club decision and I support it. I don’t want to speak too much about it.”
Contract Status and Return to Training
Grealish was back in training at the Finch Farm facility following his Monday absence, though he is anticipated to face a fine for missing the session. The playmaker had previously sat out Everton’s defeat against Arsenal on Saturday because of illness.
The England international is currently on a season-long loan at Everton from Manchester City, having also spent last season on loan with the club for a similar fee. His lucrative contract with Manchester City concludes at the end of the current campaign, at which point he will become a free agent.
