Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has been discharged from hospital and is doing well following his collapse at the club’s training ground. The 40-year-old was rushed to hospital last Friday after taking ill while watching the club’s second team train.
Medical Diagnosis and Recovery
Medical tests identified the cause of the incident as meningeal irritation, which is an inflammation of the protective membrane surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Max Eberl, the club’s board member for sports, stated that the manager left the hospital on Wednesday and is resting while taking medication. Eberl expressed confidence that Kompany will return to the touchline operating at full capacity very soon.
In the days leading up to his collapse, Kompany had been nursing a virus and missed several team training sessions. He also skipped a pre-match news conference before Bayern’s fixture against Arsenal, though he managed to coach from the touchline during the match.
Team Impact and Fixture Schedule
Club officials previously indicated that his recovery would take weeks rather than days, and no definitive timeline has been established for his return to the dugout. English assistant coach Aaron Danks has stepped in during Kompany’s absence, successfully overseeing a 3-1 victory against Freiburg over the weekend.
Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich are scheduled to face Magdeburg in the German Cup before taking on title rivals Borussia Dortmund in the league on Saturday.
