New York Yankees outfielder Spencer Jones is making the most of his offseason by getting engaged to his girlfriend, Ava O’Connor. The couple shared the happy news in a joint Instagram post on Saturday, featuring photos from the proposal at the top of the Empire State Building and subsequent celebrations around New York City.
A Romantic Proposal in Manhattan
The proposal photos captured the romantic moment high above the city skyline. In the shared post, Jones expressed his deep affection for his partner.
“Forever starts today,” the post read. “I feel like the luckiest man on Earth to propose to the most beautiful, intelligent, and sweetest woman I’ve ever met. You’ve elevated my life in so many ways & I can’t wait to take your hand in marriage.”
“You are the brightest light in a city of endless opportunities. I truly believe the world is ours when I am with you. There is nothing we cannot do when we are together. You are so easy to love. The Joneses coming soon!”
While the exact beginning of their relationship remains private, social media posts indicate they have been together since mid-2024. O’Connor previously celebrated Jones reaching the major leagues in May, posting an enthusiastic message on her Instagram Story to congratulate the rookie.
Reflecting on the 2026 Season
Jones, a towering 6-foot-7 outfielder who entered his debut season as a top prospect, displayed flashes of elite potential throughout 2026. Across 86 games, he recorded a .245/.313/.429 slash line, contributing 11 home runs and 40 RBIs.
Despite the promising moments, the young player struggled with a high strikeout rate, recording 105 strikeouts across 289 plate appearances. Following the team’s postseason elimination in the ALDS by the Rays, Jones acknowledged areas for personal growth.
“I struck out a million times this year,” Jones told the New York Post after the Yankees’ elimination. “I feel like I didn’t help the team in certain contexts that way. I think defensively, I think I can get better. I think I can get faster.”
Looking ahead to the upcoming months, Jones intends to focus on mental preparation and utilize team resources to enhance his competitive edge when spring training arrives.
