San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama appeared on 60 Minutes Sunday night to share the most important lesson he learned from legendary former head coach Gregg Popovich.
Popovich’s Core Lesson
During his interview, Wembanyama highlighted a frequent piece of advice Popovich shared during video review sessions. “He often said something when we were in film: ‘After a win, you’re rarely as good as you thought you were, and after a loss you’re rarely as bad as you thought you were,'” Wembanyama stated.
Early Season Performance and Challenges
Entering the 2026-27 season as an MVP frontrunner, the 22-year-old has delivered strong performances across six games, averaging 28 points, 10.7 rebounds, three assists, 1.3 steals, and 4.2 blocks. His main objective is guiding the Spurs back to the NBA Finals following the team’s defeat against the New York Knicks last season.
Addressing the challenges of his ongoing development and team leadership, Wembanyama explained his mindset toward uncertainty. “I think the key is being comfortable not knowing, being comfortable finding out my own answers,” he told 60 Minutes, adding, “I am comfortable not knowing my answers. I am comfortable walking through the fog.”
