Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur has praised Lewis Hamilton for delivering a fantastic performance during qualifying at the Mexico Grand Prix, securing pole position ahead of his teammate Charles Leclerc.
Tyre Management Key to Success
Vasseur explained that tyre management was the decisive factor on Hamilton’s lap. He noted the importance of preserving the tyres for the final corners to gain significant lap time without overheating them before Turn 12, adding that Hamilton executed this approach exceptionally well.
Addressing Leclerc’s session, Vasseur stated that the Monegasque driver completed a strong initial run. Although Leclerc pushed harder on his final attempt and made a couple of mistakes, he managed to recover by setting purple sectors at the end of the lap. Vasseur concluded that starting from third position on the left-hand side is a solid result for the team.
Focus Shifts to Race Start
Looking ahead to the upcoming grand prix, Vasseur mentioned that Ferrari’s race pace appears satisfactory. He emphasized that maintaining the lead at Turn 1 and securing clean air will be the critical factors for the race outcome.
