Tiger Woods and his design firm, TGR Design, have partnered with the Armchair Collective to redesign a closed North Shore Long Island golf course.
Transforming the Historic Property
The project will convert the former Tam O’Shanter Country Club in Brookville, New York, into a private 18-hole course featuring updated practice facilities, a golf performance center, and a new clubhouse. The land previously saw a failed luxury housing development attempt after arsenic was discovered in the topsoil.
Woods shared his enthusiasm for the project and his connection to the area, where he secured victory at the 2002 U.S. Open held at Bethpage Black. According to sports.yahoo.com, Woods stated that building a new golf experience in the historic Gold Coast region of Long Island is tremendously exciting for his team, noting the area’s rich architecture tradition and his own fond memories of competing there.
Timeline and Background
Demolition and site preparation are already underway, while construction is scheduled to start in 2027 alongside the release of the course name and design renderings. Originally opened in 1962, the Tam O’Shanter Club underwent remodeling work in 1968 and 1999 before a developer bought the property in 2019 with plans for residential housing that were later abandoned due to the arsenic findings.
Following a zoning code amendment by Brookville in the previous year, the private golf company Armchair Collective acquired the land in September. Brookville Mayor Dan Serota stated that bringing Woods and his design team to the historic region is a remarkable opportunity that pairs the Gold Coast’s golf tradition with exceptional design expertise.
