Sunderland remained at the bottom of the Premier League standings after suffering a 3-1 defeat away against Coventry City. The result extended Sunderland’s winless run in the league to August, leaving them with five points from nine matches under Regis Le Bris.

Coventry Take Control

Coventry began the fixture sitting just a single point ahead of Sunderland in the standings. The hosts seized control during the opening 45 minutes when Tatsuhiro Sakamoto capitalized on defensive mistakes by Trai Hume to score his inaugural Premier League goal. Taiwo Awoniyi then extended the advantage following a turnover from Luke O’Nien, sending a deflected shot past the goalkeeper.

Another deflection deepened Sunderland’s deficit after the interval, as Jack Rudoni watched his attempt bounce in off Omar Alderete. Enzo Le Fee converted a penalty kick to provide a consolation for the visiting side. Sunderland finished the match with ten players after Alderete received a red card during stoppage time, while the victory lifted Coventry out of the relegation zone.

Elsewhere in the division, fellow promoted clubs Hull City and Ipswich Town played out a 2-2 draw on Humberside. Florentino Luis opened the scoring for Ipswich before Tim Iroegbunam and Oli McBurnie struck within a 10-minute span to put Hull ahead. Julio Enciso secured a draw for Ipswich by curling a long-range shot past Konstantinos Tzolakis.

Coventry’s triumph pushed Nottingham Forest down to second from bottom following a 2-0 defeat against Brentford. Nikola Milenkovic turned the ball into his own net around the half-hour mark, and Igor Thiago added his second league goal of the campaign to lift the Bees into sixth place and extend Forest’s winless sequence to five matches.

Bournemouth Climb into Top Half

Bournemouth moved into seventh position by securing a 2-0 victory over Leeds United. Dominic Calvert-Lewin appeared to put Leeds ahead early on, but a video assistant referee review disallowed the effort for a handball offense.

Bournemouth capitalized on the reprieve when Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford misplaced a pass to Ao Tanaka. Justin Kluivert intercepted the ball and set up Evanilson for an easy finish. Amine Adli secured the win during stoppage time with a precise shot following a pass from Junior Kroupi.
