The Indianapolis Colts are struggling with a persistent turnover problem that has contributed to a difficult 2-5 start to the season.

Worst Turnover Differential in the NFL

Indianapolis holds a minus-9 turnover differential through Week 7, which ranks as the worst in the NFL according to Next Gen Stats. The Colts have now gone 12 consecutive games without finishing a contest with a positive turnover margin, marking the longest active streak in the league. As Colts On SI’s Noah Compton noted, this drought stands as the franchise’s longest stretch without a positive turnover margin since a 13-game run across the 1998 and 1999 seasons.

Late Interception Seals Defeat

That negative trend persisted during a 16-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, a game in which quarterback Daniel Jones threw an interception and the defense failed to force any takeaways. Jones threw a pass that was intercepted by veteran safety Harrison Smith with just over a minute left on the clock, extinguishing the team’s final opportunity for a comeback. The Colts had previously built a 10-6 lead at halftime following a 38-yard touchdown run by Jonathan Taylor, but the offense failed to score during the final two quarters.

Head Coach Faces Growing Concerns

Jones finished the game completing 13 of 22 passes for 108 yards with zero touchdowns and one interception, handing the Colts their third consecutive loss. These ongoing turnover difficulties present a major concern for head coach Shane Steichen, whose squad has repeatedly faltered when trying to secure tight contests.

Indianapolis will attempt to break its turnover slump and reverse its fortunes when the team faces the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 8.
