Mercedes heads to the Brazilian Grand Prix this weekend with a strong opportunity to secure the 2026 Formula 1 Teams’ Championship. The Silver Arrows currently hold a 126-point lead over Ferrari in the standings following a double points finish in Mexico City.
Remaining Points and Title Contenders
With four rounds remaining in the 2026 season, a maximum of 172 points are still available for a team that achieves a 1-2 finish at every remaining Grand Prix. Only Mercedes and Ferrari remain in contention for the team crown, as Red Bull and McLaren have dropped out of the fight.
Mercedes has accumulated 630 points this season, featuring nine Grand Prix wins by Kimi Antonelli and three victories by George Russell. Antonelli already secured the Drivers’ Championship last weekend with a third-place finish at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Ferrari sits in second place with 504 points, having secured two victories this year through Lewis Hamilton in Barcelona and Charles Leclerc at Silverstone. Red Bull remains out of contention despite Max Verstappen winning three of the last four races.
Scenarios for Clinching in Brazil
Mercedes enters the Interlagos weekend needing to leave Brazil with an advantage of more than 128 points over Ferrari to seal the championship. Because 129 points will remain available after this weekend and Mercedes holds the tiebreaker advantage due to more race wins, the team needs to outscore Ferrari by three points or more.
If Ferrari fails to score any points, an eighth-place finish by either Antonelli or Russell will be sufficient for Mercedes to claim the title. Conversely, a Ferrari 1-2 finish will ensure the championship battle extends past Brazil.
Should the championship fight continue beyond Interlagos, Mercedes will have their next opportunity at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, ahead of the final rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
