Laura Frick has secured a three-year extension in Minnesota and etched her name into the history books as the first female member of the PGA of America to serve as a championship director for the Ryder Cup, which heads to Hazeltine in 2029.
A Historic Appointment at Hazeltine
Originally from Michigan and a 2015 graduate of the PGA Golf Management program at Ferris State, Frick previously served as championship director for the KPMG Women’s PGA at Hazeltine earlier this year. Hazeltine holds the distinction of being the first golf course in the United States to host the Ryder Cup on two separate occasions.
David Charles, senior director of championships, praised her background, stating, “Laura’s experience at Hazeltine, event-management expertise and passion for the Ryder Cup will be instrumental as we work to deliver an exceptional Ryder Cup experience.”
Previous Women in Leadership Roles
While Frick is the first PGA of America member to hold this specific title for the tournament, she follows other women who previously managed Ryder Cup operations. Tara Guenther served as tournament director at Valhalla in 2008, while the late Kathy Boles Beard directed the event at Kiawah Island in 1991.
Frick will remain in her position in Minnesota as preparations continue for the 2029 matches.
