Trade deadline activity is accelerating across the NFL, and rival executives believe Brian Thomas Jr. may soon be on the move. League sources indicate his future with the Jacksonville Jaguars is uncertain following a notable decline in his offensive involvement this season.
Potential Destinations and Value
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, multiple league executives feel that Thomas’ days in Jacksonville “are numbered.” Meanwhile, Dan Graziano reported that several franchises still view the wide receiver as a “high-end talent” and are willing to offer valuable assets to acquire him.
Fowler noted that a deal is not guaranteed, but a change of scenery could benefit the third-year pass-catcher. The Jaguars face a complicated situation, as trading Thomas within the AFC could backfire if he strengthens a conference rival that Jacksonville might face in the postseason.
Potential suitors such as the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers have been mentioned as teams looking to bolster their receiving corps ahead of the deadline. Any trade negotiation could be impacted by valuation, with the Arizona Cardinals’ recent trade of Marvin Harrison Jr. to the Houston Texans serving as a possible benchmark. The Cardinals secured a 2027 second-round pick in that deal.
Diminished Role in Jacksonville
Comparisons between Thomas and Harrison are common given that both are first-round picks from the 2024 draft and recently turned 24. Thomas showcased a high ceiling during his rookie campaign by recording 1,282 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.
However, Thomas has struggled to feature prominently in the Jaguars’ offensive scheme this year, tallying just nine receptions across six games. He has played under 50 percent of the team’s offensive snaps in three matchups, which included a mere 15 snaps during a Week 6 contest against the Texans.
The upcoming deadline represents a crucial window for Jacksonville to maximize value for the receiver. Any interested franchise would acquire Thomas with enough time to evaluate his performance before deciding on his fifth-year option during the upcoming offseason.
The NFL trade deadline is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on Nov. 10. The Jaguars face a demanding stretch with two games in four days, starting with a Sunday matchup against the Indianapolis Colts followed by a Thursday night game against the Baltimore Ravens on Nov. 5.
