The New York Jets have no intention of trading star wide receiver Garrett Wilson prior to the Nov. 10 trade deadline, despite receiving inquiries from other NFL teams, as reported by CBS Sports via ESPN.
Jets Intend to Keep Wilson for the Long Term
Although New York currently holds a 2-5 record and is widely viewed as a deadline seller, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported there is “no way” the organization moves Wilson. While the Jets previously traded players like Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams after taking similar off-limits stances last season, the franchise views Wilson’s situation differently. Team ownership strongly favors the fifth-year receiver, who signed a four-year, $130 million extension last summer that keeps him under contract through the 2030 season.
According to ESPN, the Jets plan to build around Wilson using draft picks acquired from previous trades, while adding further talent through the 2027 NFL Draft cycle.
Wilson Addresses Trade Rumors and On-Field Frustrations
Wilson publicly denied trade discussions earlier in the week and reiterated his desire to stay in New York, while noting that winning remains his main priority. “I want to be here, man,” Wilson said. “I want to win games, and that’s the one thing we’ve been missing on here. I love it here. Do I love it more than I love winning? Nah, to be completely honest, but I’m hopeful. I’ve never been the most optimistic guy, but I’ve found a way and dug deep, and I’ve been optimistic for three, four, five years now. And that’s why these [losses] each weekend hurt a little more.”
The receiver emphasized that any visible frustration on the field comes strictly from a desire to win. “That’s my main frustration that may show on the TV or something like that. But I don’t want it to ever be misconstrued. This all comes from a place in my heart of wanting to win. I’m biased, but it also comes from experience where I played my part in that,” Wilson said. He added, “It’s frustrating, for sure, because I want to have an impact and I want to help the team. But really, I just want to help the team, man. Sometimes it might come off a certain way when they [show] video, but, man, that’s all it’s about.”
Wilson remains the top option in New York’s passing game, leading the team with 37 catches for 444 yards and three touchdowns while accounting for a 25.8% target share this season. That follows a career-best campaign last year where he registered 101 catches for 1,104 yards and seven touchdowns. Jets quarterback Geno Smith stated on Wednesday that he is looking to get Wilson the ball as much as possible, even while navigating coverages designed by opposing defenses specifically to contain him.
